AI is reshaping work — and raising the bar for human skills

Hey there, Disruptor —

Nearly every week, somewhere in the world, someone steps onto a DisruptHR stage and challenges how we think about work.

Every two weeks, Disruptdates brings you some of the most interesting ideas emerging from our global community — practical insights, bold thinking, and opportunities to get involved.

In this issue: insights from recent DisruptHR stages worldwide, three Talks on AI and human-centered work, a community reflection from DisruptHR Nairobi, and upcoming events across the globe.

Insights From the DisruptHR Stage

Across recent DisruptHR events in Orlando, FL; the Channel Islands; Kansas City, MO; Sofia, BG; Manchester, UK; Dublin, IE; and Northern Colorado, several practical ideas surfaced repeatedly.

First, leaders must shift from control to enablement. Multiple Talks emphasized creating environments where employees can think, decide, and act — rather than wait for direction. This showed up across leadership, communication, and performance.

Second, clarity is a leadership responsibility. Several speakers highlighted that confusion — not resistance — is often the root of poor performance. Clear expectations, simple communication, and aligned priorities were recurring themes.

Third, technology — especially AI — is reshaping work, but human skills are becoming more valuable, not less. Talks reinforced that empathy, critical thinking, and adaptability are now essential capabilities.

Finally, financial, mental, and emotional well-being are increasingly interconnected — and leaders who ignore that reality risk disengagement.

Together, these insights point to a consistent message: better leadership today is simpler, clearer, and more human.

The Future of Work Is Human

3 Talks on AI, connection, and what work still needs most

⚠️ The Warning

AI’s Threat to Uniqueness and Belonging at Work by Prof. Dr. Brooke A. Gazdag — Professor of Leadership & HR at Kühne Logistics University (KLU) at DisruptHR Hamburg 1.0

As AI becomes more embedded in how we work, we risk losing something essential: our ability to relate to each other as humans.

▶︎ Watch the Talk: AI’s Threat to Uniqueness and Belonging at Work

This Talk challenges us to consider not just what AI can do — but what it may quietly take away. When we rely too heavily on automation, we may become less practiced at connection, empathy, and the messy, human moments that build real belonging.

👉 Key takeaway: The future of work isn’t just about smarter tools — it’s about staying human together.

_____

✍️ The Practical Application

Love the Bot, Murder the Bot: Workplace Writing for Humans by Jenny Morse, PhD — Business Writing Expert at Appendance, Inc.

AI can help us write faster — but it can also make our communication feel flat, generic, and disconnected.

▶︎ Watch the Talk: Love the Bot, Murder the Bot: Workplace Writing for Humans

This Talk brings the conversation down to a daily habit we all share: how we communicate at work. When we outsource too much of our voice to AI, we risk losing clarity, personality, and trust.

👉 Key takeaway: Use the bot to inform — but don’t let it replace the human moments that actually create connection.

_____

⚡ The Bigger Reframe

The Future of Work Is Human Energy by Josh Allan Dykstra — CEO The Work Revolution

Nothing happens at work without human energy — and yet many of our systems are designed to drain it.

▶︎ Watch the Talk: The Future of Work Is Human Energy

In this engaging Talk, Josh reframes the future of work around a simple but powerful idea: energy is the resource that drives everything. From meetings to performance management, too many systems act like “energy vampires,” pulling life out of people instead of fueling them.

And here’s the key insight: No amount of self-care can fix a job that depletes you while you’re doing it.

👉 Key takeaway: The real opportunity isn’t just better tools — it’s designing work that gives people energy instead of taking it away.

🧠 Why These Ideas Matter

AI will continue to change how work gets done.

But these Talks point to a deeper truth: the organizations that thrive won’t just adopt better technology—they’ll build better human experiences.

Voices from the DisruptHR Community

After DisruptHR Nairobi 3.0 on March 12, 2026, attendee Daisy Nangalama shared this reflection on LinkedIn:

“I had the absolute pleasure of attending DisruptHR Nairobi 3.0 last week — and what an experience it was; 13 powerful topics delivered in under two hours, it truly doesn’t get better than that. The energy, the pace, and the depth of insight were exceptional.

Grateful for the thought-provoking perspectives shared by such an incredible lineup of speakers. Definitely a space where ideas are challenged, innovation is sparked, and HR continues to evolve. Looking forward to the next one!” #DisruptHRNairobi

Hello Disruptor! Have you ever wondered what makes a DisruptHR Talk truly great? Forget perfect polish or pro speakers - to me, it's all about passion and pushing boundaries. I've seen many nervous first-timers, and the timing of the slides getting away from some speakers, but their ideas? Interesting. That's the DisruptHR spirit: sharing bold ideas, even if it shakes things up a bit. And guess what? A DisruptHR idea doesn't have to be "disruptive" to be impactful. Some of my favorite Talks...
