DisruptHR NEWS — Passion Over Perfection: The Secret to Giving a Great DisruptHR Talk

Hello Disruptor!

What makes a DisruptHR Talk great?

I shared seven tips in the last DisruptHR NEWSletter for giving a great DisruptHR Talk, but I believe that more goes into making a Talk great than the delivery.

Some of my personal favorite DisruptHR Talks have been given by people who were terrified to take the stage (it showed), got behind on their slides (but recovered with humor), or had never spoken on stage before (so they were a little rusty). But they all believed in their ideas and wanted to share them with the world.

Remember, DisruptHR was originally created to provide a platform for voices not previously heard and people with unique perspectives on the future of work to share their ideas in an engaging and fun way.

The featured video in this newsletter is a great example of challenging the conventional wisdom about recruiting talent, and the speaker makes a great point. I had the pleasure of seeing this funny Talk given live in St. Peter Port, Jersey back in 2019, and the video now has over 30,000 views online.

The world is changing faster than ever, and we need more people thinking creatively about the future of work.

Why not share your idea at a future DisruptHR event, and reach thousands of people around the world!

It's Time To Start Recruiting Satisfactory Employees To Work At Okay Companies by Suzanne Lucas - Writer, Speaker and Human Resources Consultant at Evil HR Lady

In this 5-minute DisruptHR Channel Islands Talk, the Evil HR Lady herself - Suzanne Lucas - shares that the goal of hiring "the best" is likely a mismatch for what most companies have to offer.

"Let's take a look at your company. Are you in the top 10 companies to work for? No? The top 50? Also no?
You don't have to be number one to be successful. It's fine to be an average company doing average things. But when we have average companies that want to hire ninjas and rock stars, it's a mismatch. If you bring someone into your average company who's in the top one percent, they're not going to be happy. "

Hello Disruptor! Have you ever wondered what makes a DisruptHR Talk truly great? Forget perfect polish or pro speakers - to me, it's all about passion and pushing boundaries. I've seen many nervous first-timers, and the timing of the slides getting away from some speakers, but their ideas? Interesting. That's the DisruptHR spirit: sharing bold ideas, even if it shakes things up a bit. And guess what? A DisruptHR idea doesn't have to be "disruptive" to be impactful. Some of my favorite Talks...
